Mom Awaits Review of Ontario’s Breastfeeding Policy
Alison Kennedy was asked to move to another part of the building when she breastfed her baby in a warm pool at Tansley Woods Community Centre in Burlington last month. She was going to file a complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) but has put this on hold as the municipality is reviewing its policy on breastfeeding. The OHRC’s website states “you have the right to breastfeed a child in a public area. No one should prevent you from nursing your child simply because you are in a public area. They should not ask you to cover up, disturb you, or ask you to move to another area that is more discreet”.
I have included this story as I feel it is relevant to better understanding Ontario breastfeeding law. For more information on this story see: http://www.burlingtonpost.com/news/article/242204
