Breastfeeding Reduces Pain from Vaccinations
Breastfeeding can reduce the pain and trauma associated with injections. The article below is a brief overview of a study done in Turkey that tested infants and toddlers reaction to injections, commonly used to give inoculations against certain diseases. Some children were breastfed during the injection, others were not. The infants were tested, for example, for how long they cried after the shot. They found that breastfed children seemed to suffer less pain associated with injection than those children who were not nursing during the injection. Breastfeeding seems to make every owie better from teething to bumps and scrapes and colic. Just another reason to keep our babies at the breast.
